| Bathroom lighting installation guidelines (click on picture to enlarge) Having the correct level of protection is especially important when selecting lighting for use in a bathroom. All fixtures and fittings are required to be controlled by a pull cord, all wall switches that control light fittings should be outside the bathroom. Below is a brief guide to the zone ratings to help you understand what fittings can be placed where. ZONE 0: Inside the bath or shower. Any fittings used here must be low voltage (max. 12V) and be protected against immersion in water ZONE 1: Above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25 mm, must be minimum IP-7. Protection against vertically falling drops of water, for example condensation ZONE 2: This stretching to 0.6 m outside the bath or shower and above the bath or shower if over 2.25 m, IP-4. Protection against direct sprays of water up to 15 degrees from vertical ZONE 3: Anywhere outside zones 0,1 and 2. Where water jets are not to be used for cleaning purposes, no IP requirement.
